China does not have a system of judicial review per se, and thus does not yet
have a significant legal corpus of constitutional law cases. With regards to the
teaching of civil rights, this latter situation leads to an embarrassing result.
Because one cannot find a significant civil rights jurisprudence in Chinese law,
this key aspect of the constitutional law syllabus derives almost exclusively from
foreign cases. These cases are drawn primarily from American constitutional
jurisprudence.
